In an exciting development, Basecamp, the highly regarded project management tool initially introduced in 2004, is now available to users in India at a special reduced price. Indian customers can now access Basecamp for as low as approximately $4 per month, marking a significant drop in pricing.
Jason Fried, the co-founder and CEO of 37signals, recently announced the reduced pricing for Basecamp's new customers in India. The tool can now be availed for a monthly fee of 300 Indian rupees ($3.65) per user, representing a reduction of over 75% compared to the global pricing of $15 (1,200 Indian rupees). The package includes a generous 500GB storage capacity, unlimited projects, and the ability to invite guests at no additional cost.
For growing businesses, startups, and large companies, Basecamp offers the Pro Unlimited tier, which provides a total of 5TB storage and priority support. This tier is now priced at 4,800 Indian rupees ($58.48) per year, indicating a remarkable drop of more than 80% from the global pricing of $399. Additionally, there is an Unlimited tier available for monthly payments at 5,650 Indian rupees ($69), representing a reduction of over 80% from the global pricing of $349.
Fried explained that the decision to introduce special pricing in India was driven by the significant demand from small businesses, solo entrepreneurs, and freelancers in the country. He mentioned that many of these customers expressed interest in Basecamp after reading the influential business book "Rework," co-authored by Fried and his fellow co-founder, David Heinemeier Hansson.
This special pricing initiative in India serves as a test for Basecamp's new customers, with the potential for expansion to other markets in the future.
Fried stated, "For years, we've considered offering different pricing in different countries but never got around to implementing it. With all this fresh demand coming from India and our desire to test local pricing, we just felt like now was the time."
While the exact number of Basecamp users in India was not disclosed, Fried mentioned that India has consistently ranked among the top five markets globally for the company. Despite facing competition from platforms like Asana, Trello, Slack, ClickUp, and Notion, Basecamp's reduced pricing is expected to attract numerous entrepreneurs and small businesses in India, tapping into the potential of the world's second-largest internet market.
With its user-friendly features and now affordable pricing, Basecamp aims to empower Indian entrepreneurs and teams, providing them with a reliable project management solution tailored to their needs.
